India-donated wheat for 4,000 Kapisa families

MAHMOOD RAQI (PAN): Tonnes of India-donated wheat was distributed to more than 4,000 needy families in the drought-hit central Kapisa province on Friday, officials said.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock handed out the food grains to the families in Kuhistan district.

The aid is meant to be distributed to about 20,000 poor families in the province, through community leaders, Niamatullah, an agriculture department official, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Each family was given two 50-kilogram sacks of wheat, he said, adding the distribution process started in Kuhistan would be later extended across the province within a month.

“I am very happy to receive the assistance, although it is inadequate to satisfy my family’s needs,” Syed Agha, a beneficiary said.

Agha said they had been facing food shortages for a long time and had sought the government’s help to mitigate their sufferings.

Last week, more than 30,000 people in central Logar province were given wheat, according to local officials.
