KABUL): Three senior rebel leaders were killed and two other insurgents injured in separate operations by foreign troops in Baghlan and Kabul provinces, officials said on Friday.

US-led coalition troops killed a Taliban) said.

The precision airstrike took place after the two militants were spotted emplacing roadside bombs, a pressure plate device and a remote-controlled mine, the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) said.

After the raid in Baghlan-i-Jadid district, the ISAF statement said, Afghan and coalition forces removed and destroyed both explosives and detained the wounded insurgent.

The bomb maker constructed explosive devices for attacks against Afghan and coalition troops and trained other insurgents in constructing roadside bombs, the statement said.

The district police chief, Col. Mohamad Kamin, said the mid-night operation was carried out in the Ghulamkhel area. He added a prominent Taliban commander was killed and another rebel injured in the offensive.

Elsewhere, foreign troops conducted an overnight operation in the Sarobi district of central Kabul province, killing two Taliban commanders, a tribal elder said on condition of anonymity. A third man named Zakhil was wounded in the operation in the Ozbin area, he said.
