BAMYAN (PAN): A huge amount of cash was stolen from two moneychangers in central Bamyan province, police and locals said on Monday.

The thefts happened late on Sunday night in Bamyan City, moneychanger Ateequllah told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said: “This morning, one of my friends called me and said your shop’s lock has been broken. When I came to the shop, I called police to investigate the issue.”

He claims about 3.5million afghanis and $15,000 had been stolen. Thieves had broken his shop’s lock and stolen the money, he alleged.

Dr. Basir, another businessman, said unidentified men had broken into his shop and decamped with about $ 9,990. He suspected police involvement in the robbery.

Col. Ghulam Sakhi Naikpai, deputy police chief, confirmed the incident, saying an investigation was underway. So far no arrest could be made in connection with the thefts.
