20,000 people participate in teachers’ test

KABUL): About 20,000 candidates, most of them with bachelor’s degrees, sat tests for teachers in 30 provinces of the country on Wednesday, an official said.

Deputy Minister of Education Mohammad Siddique Patman said the test did not take place in Zabul, Nimroz, Nuristan and Paktika provinces, where there were no candidates.

Grade 12 graduates would take the test in the four provinces in the near future, he said, adding 11,000 of the examinees would be appointed as teachers.

Candidates at the Amani High School in Kabul said they were concerned about cheating. Rabia, a graduate from the Syed Jamaluddin Institute of Teachers, said the participants sat close and discussed questions.”We saw a lot of mismanagement that allowed cheating.”

Ahmad Mushahid, chairman of the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Services Commission (IARCIC) was also present on the occasion. He said that they had tried their best to prevent the use of unfair means.

Hamida, a graduate from the Kabul Institute, said the invigilators, who were initially strict, let participants cheat in the dying moments of the exam.
