KABUL): The International Security Assistance Force commander on Thursday condemned the improvised explosive device attack in Maimana, the capital of northern Faryab province.
Three ISAF servicemembers, four Afghan security personnel and six Afghan civilians were killed in Wednesday’s attack. The explosion also wounded dozens of civilians, coalition and Afghan security personnel.
Gen. John Allen, commander of the NATO-led force, said: “Despicable is the only word to describe the cold, heartless way in which the enemies of peace carried out this attack, detonating an IED in the middle of a large crowd of civilians.”
While offering his deepest condolences to the families of those killed, he said ISAF’s partnership with Afghan forces remained resolute and intractable, and would not be deterred by such cowardly attacks.
“We are committed to the long-term partnership with our brave Afghan brothers to help them assume responsibility for the security of the Afghan population,” he added.
