Ulema asked to spread knowledge

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Kandahar Governor Tooryali Weesa on Thursday asked religious scholars to strengthen coordination among themselves and not to keep their knowledge confined to mosques.

Addressing a meeting of ulema from Kandahar, Zabul and Helmand provinces at the Governor’s House, Weesa stressed the need for propagating against witchcraft, encroachments on graveyards by people and other un-Islamic activities.

He said ulema could play a key role in creating awareness among the people about social ills and unwholesome practices. The clerics should not allow drug addicts to use worship places as their dens, the governor said.

Regional High Peace Council. He called for them to convince militants into joining the peace process.

Other participants also urged the scholars to work for brining positive changes to society.
