MAHMOOD RAQI (PAN): Four civilians were killed during a search operation by Afghan forces in the Tagab district of central Kapisa province, officials said on Friday.
Two girls, a woman and a child were among the dead, a provincial council member told Pajhwok Afghan News. Another two people were wounded during the operation.
Najibullah Rahimi said Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and police launched the offensive three days ago to clear Mirakhel and Adizai areas of militants. On Thursday evening, the public representative said, the Taliban put up a strong resistence in the area.
District chief Abdul Hakim Akhundzada, meanwhile, confirmed the civilian casualties. However, he would not say how the residents were killed and wounded.
But an ANA official said the areas had been cleared of insurgents, who suffered a number of fatalities during the offensive.
Without commenting on the civilian deaths, 201st Military Corps spokesman Mehman Atifi said the security personnel had killed eight fighters and caught another eight alive.
