MEHTARLAM (PAN): Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead three civilians and wounded a fourth in the capital city of eastern Laghman province, an official said on Friday.

Four motorcyclists opened fire on civilians in the Maidan village on the outskirts of Mehtarlam late on Thursday, deputy police chief, Maj. Mohammad Daud Barakzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Although the assailants fled the scene, an investigation had been launched into the incident, the official said. The bodies and the wounded man were transferred to hospital.

The Laghman provincial hospital head, Dr. Abdul Latif, said the wounded civilian was reported to be in stable condition.

As soon as people came out of the mosque after performing evening prayers, the motorcyclists opened fire on them, said a witness, who did not want to be named.
