KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Ali Reza Rafiqzada, an Afghan weightlifter, has equaled the worldinfo-icon record at a local powerlifting contest in Kabul, said officials.

Rafiqzada managed to lift 410 kilograms in the national power lifting team selection competition on Saturday.

Rafiqzada said: “I feel very proud that I broke the world record in power lifting championship.”

Rafiqzada who managed to lift 410 kg surpassed the 2011 record, Khwaja Farid Ahmad Sadique, head of powerlifting federation, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The pumped-up thirty-year old athlete said he trained for the last three months for the competition and was ready for the forthcoming Asian Championship.

The Asian powerlifting meet is scheduled to be held in India next month -- where lifters from 47 countries would be taking part.
