CHAGHCHARAN (PANinfo-icon): A midwife was rescued from her abductors as a result of tribal elders’ intervention on Tuesday, two days after her kidnapping, in the Shahrak district of western Ghorinfo-icon province, officials said.

The midwife at a healthinfo-icon clinic in the Jalgamazar area was kidnapped at gunpoint by gunmen loyal to Siddiqu, an illegal armed commander, an Afghanistaninfo-icon Educationinfo-icon Development Organisation official, Dr. Wakil, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The woman was kidnapped on her way home from duty, he said, adding she was freed with mediation from tribal elders and residents. Motive behind her abduction remained unclear, he said.

The victim’s father, Mohammad Nabi, acknowledged his daughter had spent two days in captivity. But he complained the government had taken no action to release her.
