ASADABAD/QALA-I-NAW/KHOST CITY (PAN): In another inhumane attack, four people, including two children, were injured when a bomb went off inside a maternity hospital in Khost Province, said a police official.

Col. Mohammad Yaqub, provincial deputy police said the bomb placed inside the hospital exploded at about 11am.

He said a probe on the blast was underway but no further details of the injured were disclosed.

In another early morning incident, unidentified gunmen shot dead a tribal elder and former Jihadi commander in the Marwari district of Kunar Province, Habiburahman, the town’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said victim Syed Kamal, also a member of the district development council, was heading to the district bazaar when gunmen targeted him.

Meanwhile, district chief of Balamurghab succumbed to injuries when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb while traveling to the district in northwestern Badghis Province.

The victim, Mohammad Hasham Habibi was on his way to participate in the Gul-i-Pista festival (Pistachios flower) in Kata Qul area when the tragedy struck, said Abdul Ghani Saberi, the deputy governor.

The festival was cancelled to honour Habibi’ death, he added.

The three-day annual Gul-i-Pista festival is celebrated to persuade people not to cut down Pistachio trees.
