KABUL): The the issue of beating of Afghan diplomats in Iran was exaggerated and the neighbours had been able to resolve the tiff, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul said on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Meshrano Jirga Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar told senators he had talked to the Afghan diplomats who were beaten up and insulted over the past fortnight.

“Although I have asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve the issue, no steps have been taken so far,” he said, without naming the envoys.

Muslimyar quoted one of the diplomats as saying: “It is very embarrassing for me to live like a prisoner in Iran, despite having a diplomatic passport.”

But the ministry spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News that the issue had already been addressed. Faramarz Tmana said the envoys had only a minor irritant with Iranian officials and that had been resolved.

“Currently, there is no problem for any Afghan diplomat or consul-general in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the deputy spokeswoman concluded.
