NSC meeting praises village councils

KABUL in provinces.

A statement issued from the Presidential Palace said education officials in coordination with other departments were making efforts to reopen closed in some provinces.

Education Minister Ghulam Farooq Wardak, who attended the meeting, briefed participants on security-related issues being faced by schools in southern Ghazni and central Maidan Wardak and other provinces.

Interior Minister Bismillah Mohammadi talked about the security situation in Kapisa and changes in police deployments formula in some provinces.

Giving information about military operations in the country, Defence Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak told the meeting that all operations were led by Afghan troops since an agreement had been reached with the international community.

He also said cases of prisoners at the Bagram prison were being assessed for decisions on their fate.

Similarly, Dr. Ashraf Ghani, the transition commission head, briefed the meeting on the third phase of the transition.

The participants also conferred on preparations for the Chicago summit on Afghanistan in May.
