5 police killed in Farah blast

FARAH CITY (PAN): Five policemen were killed and a sixth injured in a roadside bombing in western Farah province, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when their vehicle struck the bomb in the Surkh Dewar area of Khak-i-Safed district, said the acting provincial police chief.

Col. Mohammad Ghaws Malyar told Pajhwok Afghan News three of the bodies and the injured policeman were taken to the Farah Civil Hospital and the two other corpses to the district centre.

Witness Abdul Baseer said the explosion occurred when the police vehicle was passing the area.

District chief, Abdul Khaliq Noori, confirmed that five policemen were killed and another wounded. The injured policeman is in stable condition, according to Director of Public Health Dr. Abdul Jabbar Shaiq said.
