WASHINGTON (PAN): The United States remains committed to the Afghan Local Police (ALP) programme which is doing “a good job” and has made considerable progress in increasing its capabilities and strength, the Pentagon said Monday.

“Transition is progressing, we are seeing success. There is going to be bumps on the road, there would be challenges, … our sense is that ALP is doing a very good work,” the Pentagon Press Secretary, George Little, told reporters during an off-camera gaggle.

“The United States remains committed to ALP. They remain 13,000 strong. They are in 58 districts. They continue to play a very important role in shaping security in local areas of Afghanistan,” Little said.

“We are very committed to the ALP program. We realize that they will continue to face challenges as the other components of the ANSF through the transition process. But they are on track, their capabilities are growing and we would continue to support them,” he said in response to a question during an off camera news conference.
