Summit to focus on support for Afghan forces: Hakimi

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The NATOinfo-icon summit in Chicago would focus on international support for Afghan security forces in the years ahead, the country’s top diplomat in the United States said in an interviewsinfo-icon published on Friday.

"This particular summit, the Chicago summit, within the context of NATO, is focusing on the Afghan security forces and their support for the years to come," Ambassador Eklil Hakimi told the New York Times.

President Hamid Karzai would highlight the growing competence of Afghan forces and the need for the global fraternity to lend long-term support to the personnel in terms of training and equipment, he added.

Hakimi claimed progress on issues, including womeninfo-icon's rights and educationinfo-icon over the past decade. Afghan women had found their way to parliament, in addition to playing an active role in business and other fields, he said.
