KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Officials in southern Kandahar province on Saturday criticised the central government for what they said allocating a meager of amount of development budget for the restive province.

The governor’s spokesman Javed Faisal told Pajhwok Afghan News Governor Tooryalai Weesa had discussed the developmental budget at a meeting with senior provincial officials.

Budgets allocated to all provinces indicated Kandahar will get $33 million (1,652 million afs), he said, adding the amount was too meager at a time when the province needed more funds.

He explained other provinces like Badakhshan, Balkh and Helmand would get $ 138 million, $ 103million and $98 million respectively in funds from the central government for development activities.

Faisal said participants of the meeting with governor criticised MPs representing Kandahar in the Wolesi Jirga for not approaching the Ministry of Finance during budget allocations.

Weesa asked officials to work with relevant ministries in transferring funds to all provincial departments as soon as possible in order to use the money on time.
