KABUL): About 2,164 Afghan National Army (ANA) and police recruits were awarded certificates on completing their training programmes in Nangarhar, Laghman and Kandahar provinces, officials said on Thursday.  

Up to 1,400 ANA soldiers were given away certificates at a ceremony held in this regard at the 205th Atal Military Corps base in Kandahar, the corps commander, Gen. Abdul Hamid Hamid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The graduates would be deployed to their respective provinces, he said, noting the security situation had improved in the country due to accelerated training process for ANA soldiers.  

Meanwhile, 243 policemen graduated from a training centre in Spin Boldak district, said Jawed Faisal, police spokesman.

Hailing from various districts, Jawed said the recruits received two month training under a district development programme.

In Laghman, 312 police sergeants were awarded certificates on completing a four-month training, said an police official at the training academy, Col. Ghulam Mohiuddin.

The graduates belonged to Parwan, Paktia, Kunar, Laghman, Bamyan and Nangarhar provinces, he said, adding the individuals leaned various military techniques during the training course.

Another 209 sergeants graduated from a police training centre in eastern Laghman province, the training centre head said.

Col. Mafad Khan Rahimzai said the individuals completed a four-month training under Afghan and foreign mentors.
