Disabled cricket tourney kicks-off in Kabul

KABUL started on Monday in central Kabul, officials said.

Nusrat Wafa, spokesman of the Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) told Pajhwok Afghan News that Band Ameer, Mess Ainak, Speen Ghar and Amu zones have participated in the T-20 tournament.

Dr Hameed Shinwari, an executive official of ACB, during the inauguration of the tournament said the main aim of the competition is to organise a national cricket team of disabled people.

ACB has contacted the disabled cricket federation of Pakistan for friendly matches among teams of the disabled community from both countries, Shinwari added.

“ACB wants to assure disabled persons that they have a right to education have,” he said, adding that any disabled person could benefit from the cricket stadium and academy in Afghanistan.

Shinwari further said they would form a national and under-19 teams comprising of disabled persons soon.

Khoshal Hamzakhel, a disabled player of Speen Ghar zone, said they wanted to show others that they were equal to any normal people.

He was playing cricket for the last five years but it was the first time, he was participating in a tournament, Hamzakhel added.

Hunar Majeed, another player thanked the ACB for organising the tournament.
