JALALABAD (PANinfo-icon): A crime branch officer was shot dead and his companion wounded in the Ghanikhel district of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday, officials said.

Unidentified motorcyclists gunned down Mir Akhtar and injured his friend at about 7 am in the Galaee village, where he was heading to his office, Ghanikhel district chief Dr. Esa Khan Zwak told Pajhwok Afghan News. The officer’s friend managed to flee.

The body of the officer and his wounded friend were taken to the district hospital, said Ahmad Zai Abdulzai, the governor’s spokesman. He added police had been sent to the area to probe the shooting. So far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
