Predawn raid kills 8 militants in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (PANinfo-icon): Eight insurgents were killed during a predawn raid by international soldiers in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Sunday.

The airstrike took place at about 2 am, after a group of rebels attacked a joint patrol of Afghan and coalition forces in Batikot district, the governor’s spokesman said.

Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the NATOinfo-icon-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) struck the militants on motorcycles in Chahardeh area.

Col. Mahbubullah, the district police chief, said the raid did not harm civilians or security personnel.

Elsewhere, a police commander and his bodyguard were killed when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in central Uruzgan province late on Saturday.

The victim was on the way to his checkpoint when the Talibaninfo-icon-planted landmine went off in the Soli area, said Col. Gulab Khan, the provincial crime branch chief.
