Taliban gun down Kunar elders

 AZADABAD (PAN killed two tribal elders after inviting them to negotiations in the Narai district of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Tuesday.

District chief Gul Zaman told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents shot dead the elders on Monday evening when they arrived in the area for negotiations. Malik Akhbar Khan and Hidayathullah died on the spot while others managed to escape, added Gulzaman.   

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that the fighters had killed the two elders for supporting the government. In recent days, several tribal elders have been murdered by the militants.
