KABUL’s public execution of a woman in central Parwan province.

A video depicting the execution of a young woman in front of a crowd for alleged adultery surfaced recently, provoking widespread condemnation from human rights activists.

“This wasn’t justice, this was murder and an atrocity of unspeakable cruelty. The Taliban’s continued brutality toward innocent civilians, particularly women, must be condemned in the strongest terms,” Allen said in statement.

He said there has been too much progress made by too many brave Afghans, especially women, for this kind of criminal behavior to be tolerated.

Praising the Afghan public for standing up against atrocities committed by militants, he said the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is in full support of the people.

“I am also encouraged to hear that the provincial police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this atrocity. ISAF is ready to assist the ANSF (Afghan National Security Forces) in tracking down and holding accountable the perpetrators of this heinous act.

“I have every confidence justice will be done. ISAF remains committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with its ANSF partners to protect those who can’t protect themselves,” added Allen.
