TOKYO (PAN-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association in Tokyo on Tuesday.

Presidential spokesman Aimal Faizi told Pajhwok Afghan News that Emperor Akihito, in the meeting at the Imperial Palace, thanked Karzai for Afghanistan’s assistance to the victims of a recent earthquake.

He also congratulated the president on the successful conduct of the Tokyo Conference that pledged id=”mce_marker”6 billion in aid to the conflict-battered country over the next four years, the spokesman said.

While stressing continued friendly and cooperative bilateral relations, the president expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their support to Afghanistan over the years.

Meanwhile, the president conferred with three members of the Afghan-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association on the achievements that Afghanistan made at Sunday’s conference, which was attended by more than 70 governments and international organisations.

Japan announced at the meeting $3 billion in aid to Afghanistan over the next three years. Over the past decade, Tokyo has given Kabul more than $2 billion in assistance.
