KABUL): A dozen insurgents have been killed and 20 others detained during separate security operations in different parts of the country, said the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday.

The operations were conducted by police, with cooperation from the Afghan National Army (ANA), the National Directorate of Security and the International Security Assistance Force.

Security forces combed Helmand, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Zabul, Ghazni, Farah, Khost, Balkh and Kunar provinces to detain the fighters, said a statement from the ministry.

Six Kalashnikovs with 49 magazines, 10 landmines, 40 kilograms of explosives, an equal amount of drugs and a motorcycle were recovered from the guerrillas.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed the rebels had killed three policemen in Helmand, two ANA soldiers in Uruzgan and five Afghan and foreign troops in the Arghistan district of Kandahar. Ahmadi confirmed the death of two fighters in the district.
