KABUL): The National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday directed relevant ministries and departments to work out a mechanism for the transfer to Afghan forces of the installations and equipment to be left behind by foreign troops.

Chaired by President Hamid Karzai, the council asked the ministries of defence, interior, National Directorate of Security and Independent Directorate of Local Governance to evolve the mechanism in cooperation with International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Most of foreign troops are scheduled to leave the country by 2014.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said the meeting also evaluated a proposed agreement with the UK and Ireland. Under the accord, the UK will send some military officers to the Afghan Academy of Military Officers.

The meeting agreed the agreement was in the larger interest of the country, directing the interior and defence ministries to pay greater attention to its contents.

The meeting also reviewed the overall security situation in the country. Relevant organs were directed to focus on ensuring security for the people.

While denouncing the assassination of Wolesi Jirga member Ahmad Khan Samangani and 19 other people in a suicide attack on his daughter’s wedding ceremony, the NSC ordered a thoroughgoing probe into the incident.
