ISLAMABAD (PAN): Thirteen people were killed and four others wounded in a roadside bombing in the Orakzai tribal region of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, officials said.

The explosion took place at around 6:30am when a civilian vehicle struck the roadside bomb in the restive area, dubbed by the US as the most dangerous region, a local administration official told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said at least two children were among those killed by the remote-controlled bomb in Sepoy village. He stopped short of blaming anyone for the assault.

But the outlawed Pakistan Taliban (Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan) claimed responsibility for the bomb attack. A spokesman for the group told local media outlets that they were behind the bomb attack.

Witness Abid Orakzai said the explosives had been placed on a bus that was heading from the village to the Qala area. He put the toll at 10 dead and three wounded. Seven people were killed on the spot while six others succumbed to their injuries at hospital.

Local journalist Hassan Mahmud said four women and an 11-year-old boy were among the fatalities. The injured were taken to a military hospital in Kohat. Two of them are said to be in critical condition.
