KABUL month and allow Afghan families worship in peace.
In a statement issued by UNAMA, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan Jan Kubis, said the hallmarks of Ramadan are contemplation, worship and compassion.
“Let us all work during this holy month for peace and the welfare of all Afghans who have suffered for over three long decades of conflict.
“We call upon all parties to respect the sanctity of this month and allow Afghan families to worship and celebrate in peace,” said Kubis.
The United Nations family in Afghanistan wishes you all peace and happiness during the holy month of Ramadan, added the statement.
Meanwhile, in a statement, outgoing American ambassador to Afghansitan Ryan Crocker wished all Afghans a happy and blessed Ramadan.
“Millions of American Muslims will join you in observing Ramadan, Islam is our second largest religion. These celebrations are a chance to reflect on the principles we hold in common, as well as on Islam’s role in advancing justice, tolerance, and the dignity of all,” said Crocker.
In keeping with the tradition, the US embassy will be hosting a number of Iftars in Afghanistan for Muslims and non-Muslims to join together and share our common values, faith and the blessings of the past year, he added.
Billions of Muslims around the world would welcome Ramadan on Friday.
