KABUL province, an official said on Wednesday.

One of the bombs the fighters had planted in Khwaja Ghar village last week went off late on Tuesday, killing the children, the town’s administrative head told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mohammad Zahir Timim said the bombs had been planted after a rebel attack on the district headquarters, but they were pushed back by security forces.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior said forces had killed 13 militants, injured two and detained 33 others in operations in Maidan Wardak, Zabul, Logar, Ghazni, Herat and Nuristan provinces.

Sixteen weapons and a large quantity of ammunitions, three motorcycles and a car were recovered by Afghan and foreign forces, said a statement from the ministry.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said they had inflicted causalities on 12 Afghan soldiers in an armed attack and roadside bombings in the Jalrez district of Maidan Wardak.

Five more policemen were killed in two separate roadside bomb blasts in Logar and Ghazni provinces, while two local policemen died in an armed attack in Shindand district of Herat, he said.
