Children among 8 dead in Bajaur blast

ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Eight people were killed and 22 others wounded in a bomb explosion in Pakistaninfo-icon’s northwestern tribal region of Bajaur, bordering Afghanistaninfo-icon, officials said on Monday.

The blast occurred at 10 am in the Pashad Bazaar of Salarzai sub-district, a local security official said, adding that eight people were killed and 22 others wounded.

But a doctor at Khar Agency Headquarters Hospital, Mohammad Riaz, said that 21 injured people had been brought to the healthinfo-icon facility. He added some of the injured were in critical condition.

The explosives were placed inside a shop in the market, according to resident Arshad Khan, who said several shops and buildings were destroyed. The dead included two children, he added.

As security forces cordoned off the area, rescuers, including locals, transferred the casualties to hospital. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.
