Women, policemen among 11 killed

KABUL were among 11 people killed in a string of security-related incidents in different parts of the country, officials said on Saturday.

The militants killed the local police force members after keeping them in captivity for three days in the Siah Gird district of central Parwan province, the district police chief, said.

Maj. Mohammad Saleh told Pajhwok Afghan News three policemen — going home from a checkpoint in Chaharda area — were kidnapped to the Chilan valley of the district by the fighters.

The rebels shot dead two of the captives and spared the third who had a mental problem, Saleh added.

The victims’ bodies were handed over to their families on Friday, local police commander Maulvi Shin Gul said.

Separately, two women were among five people killed in separate incidents in the Pakhtunkot district of the northern province of Faryab, said the police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Khaliq Aqsai.

A man, his wife and sister-in-law were killed by robbers who broke into their house in Badghisi village. The thieves took away the cash that the family recently received from relatives in Iran.

In the same village, the insurgents gunned down two people and snatched their weapons, the police chief said, adding the guerrillas had invited the two to Iftari through a third man.

A resident of the area, Ahmad Farid, said one of the victims, Inayatullah, had recently joined the NATO-funded local police force.

But Aqsai said the man had no job in the force and he might have been killed due to enmity.

Separately, Logar Women’s Affairs Director Najiba Saeed escaped unhurt in a militant attack. Three of the assailants were killed in retaliatory fire from police.

Najiba and her husband were on their way home on Friday evening when the militants attacked them in the Kulangar area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.

The director’s husband was injured in the attack, said the governor’s spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwesh.
