KABUL, officials said on Friday.

Dilbar, a former jihadi, was gunned down in the Jalga district of Baghlan province late on Thursday night, the deputy police chief said.

Col. Syed Zamanuddin told Pajhwok Afghan News that 45-year-old, who played a key role in bringing security to the town, was attacked by the Uzbek and Chechen fighters active in the area.

Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for gun attack. Their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Dilbar was a police commander, who was gunned down in the Masan area.

Elsewhere in the north, the militants gunned down two ex-mujahideen — Abdul Ghafoor and Ghulam Haider — in the Aqcha district centre and the Araban area of Qosh Tepa town.

Hamidullah, the Qosh Tepa district chief, said the victims held security positions during mujhadeen’s rule. Currently, they had no government jobs. But the Taliban said both were police officials.
