KABUL, the alliance said on Saturday.

In a brief statement, the NATO-led force neither revealed the victim’s nationality nor the exact location of the incident.

But the Britain’s defense ministry announced a soldier from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards has been killed in southern Afghanistan.

The ministry said the soldier, who has not yet been named, died Friday as a result of enemy action while working in the Nahri Saraj district of Helmand province. His death brings to 425 the number of British military personnel to have died in Afghanistan since 2001.

Since the start of this year, 299 international soldiers, including 233 Americans, have been killed across the country. Last year, 566 NATO soldiers were killed in Afghanistan.
