CHARIKAR research and training centre, a $3 million project, was launched in central Parwan province on Tuesday.

A complex of seven single-storey blocs, the centre is being constructed over a five-acre of land, Mohammad Asif Rahimi, the Agriculture and Livestock Minister told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Funded by the Korean Provincial Reconstruction Team, the project is estimated to cost 153.9 million afghanis and would take 11 months to complete, he said.

The centre would have separate blocs for agriculture training, research and other research programmes. The minister said the structure would have other facilities like an artificial insemination centre, packaging, storage, green houses, dining rooms, a mosque and car parking.

Rahimi said 1,200 farmers would be imparted agriculture training at the centre each year. Without giving details, he said mentors for the centre were being trained in Kabul and Korea, hoping the centre would prove useful in bringing about revolution in the country’s agriculture sector.

Provincial council member Obaidul Rahman Qarizada praised the PRT and the agriculture ministry for launching work on what he said the much-needed project.  He said the centre would help improve agriculture in the province, asking farmers to get the most benefit from the facility.
