KABUL): A 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl have been beheaded in separate incidents in southern Kandahar and eastern Kapisa provinces, officials said on Friday.

Suspected insurgents kidnapped and killed the boy, whose brother is a member of local police, in the Panjwai district and placed his severed head near his body on the side of a road to send a warning to local police, the governor’s spokesman said.

The victim, a resident of Zheri district, had been sent by his father to Panjwai district to borrow money from the caretaker of his family’s orchard in the Spirwan area, when a group of insurgents seized him, the governor’s spokesman Javed Faisal said.

The Taliban took away the boy despite continued appeals for mercy by his host, the caretaker, the official said.

Residents who found the boy’s body informed the police, said Fasail, who said the governor’s house had strongly condemned the killing.

The governor had directed security organs to arrest and bring to justice the killers by using all available resources, he said.

Panjwai district chief Haji Fazl Mohammad said that efforts were underway to arrest the killers.

Although the Taliban have said nothing so far about the incident, Faisal said it was a Taliban warning to local police and to others who support the government.

In Zheri district, a 16-year-old boy accused by the Taliban of spying for the government was beheaded and skinned in late July.

In eastern Kapisa province, officials said a beheaded body of a 7-year-old girl was found dumped on a garden with her legs also severed.

Police said they were not sure if the girl had been killed by her family or the Taliban. The girl was found in Jalukhil village on Thursday.

The murders follow the beheading of 17 residents in southern Helmand province this week.
