Oct 05, 2012 - 13:44

SAR-I-PUL CITY (PANinfo-icon): A former jihadiinfo-icon commander was shot dead as a result of an ambush in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul, officials said on Friday.

Rahimullah was mistakenly killed by local residents on Thursday night, the acting provincial police chief, Col. Jahangir Kiramat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

“Armed men are maintaining security for their areas with their own weapons; they are not linked to police or other security organs,” he explained.

A team sent to the area arrested two suspects in connection with the murder, Kiramat added.

A resident of the area, Noorullah, said the killers of Rahimullah, who had been active against the Talibaninfo-icon in the area, had surrendered to police.
