ASADABAD (PAN): The security responsibility for the capital and three districts of eastern Kunar province was handed over to Afghan forces on Wednesday, as part of the fourth phase of transition.

A ceremony here, attended by Deputy Minister of Interior Gen. Abdul Rahman, an ISAF representative and Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi, marked the security switch in Asadabad, Noorgal, Sawkai and Narang districts.

Abdul Rahman assured the participants that the Ministry of Interior would deploy more security personnel to Kunar. He also sought cooperation from locals with policemen in maintaining security.

Governor Wahidi praised preparations by Afghan security personnel for shouldering the responsibility. The security problem in the province resulted from Pakistani shelling, he alleged, asking the deputy minister to deploy Afghan Local Police to all districts of Kunar.
