WASHINGTON (PAN): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Marc Grossman is travelling to Turkey to attend a meeting of the International Contact Group (ICG) on Afghanistan, the State Department said on Tuesday.
He would also visit Islamabad to hold talks with the Pakistani leadership, but his travel to the region did not include a stopover in Afghanistan, a statement from the State Department said.
“This meeting of the ICG will focus on status of Afghan and international commitments on security and development following the Chicago NATO summit and the Tokyo Conference,” the State Department said.
ICG member countries plan to discuss international support for transition planning and an Afghan-led political process. “In Islamabad, Grossman will continue our work with the Pakistani government to identify our shared interests and focus on actions we can take together,” the statement added.
