JALALABAD (PAN-Jalalabad highway as part of foolproof security measures for Eidul Adha, officials said on Saturday.
The operations cover areas between Tangi Ghar and Daronta tunnel, the authorities said, adding the militants were in a bid to disturb security along the busy road in the build-up to the Muslim festival.
Col. Noman Hatifi, a spokesman for the Selab Military Corps in the eastern zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News third brigade soldiers were also conducting search operations in several areas of central Kapisa province.
During an earlier offensive in the Khogyani district of Nangarhar province, troops from the fourth brigade had seized and defused 80 roadside bombs, he added.
A resident of the Kakas village of Qarghayee district in Laghman province, Sher Ali, welcomed the military action as a timely security measure. Occasional gun attacks in the area had disturbed the security situation, he said.
“There are no major insurgent activities in the area, but at times, they surface,” he said, adding a man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen some time back.
