No shift in policy after polls:US official

KABUL after the presidential elections next week.

In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Robert O. Blake, the assistant Secretary of South and Central Asian Affairs, said ties would remain the same as the US has strong commitment in Afghanistan.

“We expect no major changes. First let’s see who wins the elections. Both President (Barak) Obama and Governor Mitt Romney have expressed support for Afghanistan’s future.

“Either leader will see a continuous strong commitment to the Government of Afghanistan, to ensure a stable and prosperous future Afghanistan,” said Blake.

More than 100 million Americans would go to the polls on 6th November to elect their 45th president.

Incumbent Democratic President Obama, who is running for the second term, is facing a major challenge from Republican Party candidate Romney, the Massachusetts Governor.

Commenting on Afghanistan’s 2014 presidential polls, Blake who is on an official visit to Kabul, said the US was ready to work closely with Afghanistan to see a successful election takes place.

“US is strongly committed in Afghanistan to ensure a transparent and open election, we will work  with Afghan our friends to achieve that objective,” he added.
