KABUL): A district police chief and three children were killed in separate security incidents in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.

Lt. Col. Rahmatullah, the Dand district police chief, was killed during a clash with Taliban in the Zanakhan area of southern Kandahar province.

The district’s administrative head, Ahmadullah Nazak, said three Taliban fighters were also killed in the clash that erupted after Taliban tried to storm the district headquarters.

Police launched a search operation in the area after the encounter, said the governor’s spokesman, Javed Faisal.

In central Maidan Wardak province, three children, including a girl and a Sheppard, were killed during separate blasts in Syedabad district on Friday, said the governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid.

In Logar province, a public upraising commander escaped unhurt in a roadside bombing in the Taqi Shah village on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.

The commander, Farhad Akbari, accused Taliban fighters who were detained by them and were released two days ago of planting the landmine that his vehicle struck on Friday evening.

“Taliban should not be shown any mercy, because they devoid of morality and humanity. They respond to every good gesture with violence,” Akbari remarked, ruing the release of their fighters.
