KABUL):  President Hamid Karzai left Kabul on Wednesday to attend a democracy forum in Indonesia and sign diplomatic and cultural exchange agreements with the Indonesian government.

Karzai will address the 5th Bali Democracy Forum on Thursday, a statement from the presidential palace said.  The Indonesian-sponsored democracy forum has in the past drawn leaders from around the world.

The president is expected to meet with his Indonesian counterpart, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the statement said.

The two presidents will sign five agreements, including “Friendship Agreement between Afghanistan and Indonesia,” an agreement regarding visas for political and service passports, a memorandum of  understanding for mutual counseling, and an MoU of cultural exchange, the statement added.

Karzai was accompanied by senior officials, including foreign minister, Zalmay Rasul, Karzai’s the national security advisor, Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, and the minister of information and culture, Dr. Syed Makhdum Rahin.

After visiting Indonesia, Karzai will travel to Indian and sign four more agreements with the Indian government.
