KABUL): Three warlords accused of grabbing and selling state-owned land by using fake documents in the Paghman district of Kabul have fled the country to evade arrests, an official said on Monday.

More than 50 acres of land, allocated for the Qargha Park, was occupied before being sold, Deputy Attorney General Noor Habib Jalal told a news conference in Kabul.

In mid-2012, representatives from the Ministries of Interior and Information, the Kabul Municipality and AGO were tasked to investigate the land-grab case.

Jalal said investigations showed government land in the district was sold by warlords — Abdul Wasi, Ihsanullah and Qari Shams. He denied officials’ complicity in the scandal.

He added they were doing all they could to wrest back the land, which had been sold fraudulently to locals. A township is being built on the land in Qargha Park, according to the deputy AG.
