WASHINGTON (PAN, have been named to Foreign Policy magazine’s second annual list of Top 100 Global Thinkers.
While Malala was ranked sixth, Samar was placed on the 41st spot in the exclusive list of global thinkers that is topped by the popular Burmese leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, and the Burmese President, Thein Sein. The former US President, Bill Clinton, has been ranked third followed by his wife and the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
The US President, Barack Obama, has been placed on the seventh spot. The former Pakistani Ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, has been ranked at 61st spot along with his wife Farahnaz Ispahani. For the first time six Pakistanis have made it to the list.
“From her perch at the Afghanistan‘s participation in modern-day Afghanistan,” Foreign Policy said about Samar, chair of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission.
The magazine said Samar’s addition to the list is a vital message in a country where almost 90 percent of women can’t read and childbirth is more dangerous than just about anywhere else on the planet; a country where a woman who is raped can be prosecuted for adultery and the female suicide rate is among the world‘s highest.
“And with the government actively trying to bring the Taliban back into the political process, Samar represents a bulwark against the return of the Islamist movement’s medieval vision,” it said.
