KABUL Ministry is trying to save nearly 5,000 contract teachers who are likely to lose their positions under a new government ruling that comes into effect next month, an official said on Thursday.
The Ministry of Finance had approved the dismissal of contractor teachers effective December 21st, education ministry spokesman Amanullah Eman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
About 200,000 teachers, including 5,000 of them hired on contract basis, are teaching in schools across the country.
Many contract teachers’ education level was lower than 12th grade and the ministry had recruited them due to lack of teachers, he said.
Since there is a dire need for these teachers across the country, the ministry had prepared a proposal to recruit contractor teachers for next year, said Eman.
Central Panjshir education director Abdul Muqim Halimi said 148 contractor teachers were dismissed under the new ruling and this has resulted in shortage of teaching staff.
