KABUL and said it was against the teachings of Islam.
In his weekly radio speech, the president urged religious scholars, prayer leaders and tribal elders to preach to the public on women’s rights and that it was against Islam to harm them.
Karzai said Islam does not accept cruel behavior towards women and it was against basic human rights as well.
“For several years we have been struggling to eliminate the harsh actions against women,” he added.
Despite the establishment of several women rights organisation and commission to eliminate violence against women, the crime still exist, he remarked.
The president called on all the media, especially radio stations, to promote programmes to eradicate cruelty against women and help them prosper in life.
