Taliban militants killed in Baghlan, Herat

Taliban militants killed in Baghlan, Herat

PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN militants were killed including a local militant commander in Pul-i-khumri, capital of northern Baghlan province on Saturday.

Baghlan Police Chief Brig.Gen.Asadullah Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants and militant commander Muhammad Haneef, were killed when they were planting roadside bomb in Jarkiskan area, outskirt of Pul-I-Khumri. 

International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) also acknowledged death of the commander, who was involved in supplying suicide bombers and weapons to militant commanders in the province.

Taliban militants’ spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said a tribal militia commander Saeed Mir’s vehicle was damaged when it struck a roadside bomb planted by their fighters and two of his bodyguards  wounded. But they had no information on Saeed Mir.

Baghlan police chief said they also seized 10 kg crystal (a type of heroin) and 50 kg hashish on Pul-i-Khumri highway.

Meanwhile, in northern Herat, five Taliban militants were killed in Shindand district.

The 207 military corps spokesman Col.Najibullah Najibi told Pajhwok Afghan News that fourth battalion of Afghan National Army in Shindand raided a militants’ hideout, killing five fighters and wounded three others.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed their fighters killed five Afghan soldiers and wounded many others. He also claimed that militants also attacked an ISAF vehicle and killed several foreign soldiers.

However, Col.Abdul Heemid Hameedi rejected Taliban’s claims and said Afghan Army vehicle was partially damaged and no soldiers hurt in the attack.
