Brussels (PAN): Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United Kingdom are gathering in London on Thursday to discuss about Afghan’s peace process.
During an inclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, on the sidelines of NATO ministers meeting in Brussels, foreign ministry spokesman, Janan Mousazai said Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul would head to London for the meeting.
Foreign Minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar and British’s William Hague would be involved in the meeting, he added.
This is a follow-up of meeting after Pakistan and UK foreign ministers met in Kabul some months ago and the second meeting held on the sideline of United Nations meeting in the United States three months ago.
He added: “Pakistan and UK are our friends and hope they would play their role in Afghanistan’s peace process.”
He said last week, during Rassoul’s visit to Pakistan, both countries agreed on various problems and now it was the time to take practical steps to implement those decisions.
He said Kabul forwarded three demands to Pakistan, namely the release of all Taliban prisoners in Pakistan jails, facilitating face-to-face dialogues with the Taliban and paving ground for peace talks with the movement in a third country.
In response to a question, he said Afghanistan and Pakistan were close neighbours and peace would benefit both nations.
“We honestly seek good ties with Pakistan in various spheres and welcomed the release of Taliban prisoners by Pakistan.”
He hoped Islamabad would take similar steps towards promoting peace. PAJHWOK/ Javid Hamim Kakar
