Maidan Wardak security operation under scrutiny

Dec 09, 2012 - 18:43

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The Presidential Palace on Sunday tasked a commission to look into the alleged  complaints over operations conducted by foreign and local forces in central Maidan Wardak province.

A statement from the secretariat of Minister's Council said the commission, led by the Defence Minister, would comprise representatives from the National Directorate of Security and the Interior Ministry.

According to the statement, people from Maidan Wardak had lodged complaints about the operations led by the American Special Force and Afghan troops in the province.

The commission would launch its investigations on Monday and present its findings to the presidential office within the next two days.

Tribal elder Haji Khuram Dil from Chak district, complained that the Afghan National Army soldiers, accompanied by foreign troops, launched operations in Noorkhel and Mandokhel areas of the district at about 10 pm last night.

He said troops broke gates of eight houses with explosives but “none of the people in these houses belonged to the Talibaninfo-icon."

He said the joint forces arrested local residents and held them as hostages in a courtyard.
