HERAT CITY (PAN): The Iranian consulate in western Herat province has been closed, following a violent protest earlier in the week, an official said on Tuesday.
The consulate has been shut for repairs of the portions damaged by the protestors and rains, said Mir Sikanderi, a public relations officer at the diplomatic mission.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the emergency section remained open to process urgent work.
On Sunday, dozens of residents of border districts staged an angry protest against the killing of 13 Afghan youth by Iranian border guards.
The provincial governor’s spokesman, Mohiuddin Noori, acknowledged the consulate had lodged a protest with the Herat government over the demonstration. The entrance to consulate was pelted with stone, according to the letter.
